-----------------------------------------------------
ANNUAL is a brand that specializes in New Zealand wool.
"WORK IN PROGRESS" is a web content that depicts the behind-the-scenes of the ANNUAL products.
We will introduce the creators' thoughts and how their products were made.
The first one is Henry Thermal Pullover
We would like to introduce some popular products from 2020, when ANNUAL's e-commerce site was launched.
Launch of an EC site. In other words, the product that represents the brand
The design had to be simple and timeless, easy for anyone to wear, and unique.
(Every season, ANNUAL racks its brains over these conflicting themes to come up with new ideas.)
Since the brand was launched, ANNUAL's knitwear has only used two types of yarn that we have developed in-house.
For this project, we decided to use worsted yarn because we wanted to create products that customers could wear for a longer season.
The worsted yarn developed by ANNUAL has a typical yarn count of 2/48, but it is made in a very special way.
About ANNUAL worsted yarn
-----------------------------------------------------
A compact spinning method that uses air to bundle the fibers and wrap the fuzz.
Silospun is a manufacturing method in which spinning and doubling are carried out in a single process to create yarn.
By combining these ingredients and adding shrink-proofing processing, we have developed a high-quality yarn that is free of fuzz, has a clear, refined luster, and is less likely to pill.
-----------------------------------------------------
In fact, this special yarn manufacturing process reduces pilling, but it also results in a thinner yarn than regular 2/48. (Normally, 14GG1PLY is the best for 2/48, but ANNUAL's worsted yarn is 16GG1PLY.)
If the knit is thin, your body silhouette will be visible, and if the stitches are not tight, the garment will lose its shape as you wear it.
Therefore, we used 12GG2PLY, which gives a fleshy look without revealing the silhouette, and set the knitting structure to one-sided rib to give the garment a more voluminous feel.
However, it would be boring to just make an ordinary crew neck pullover out of this.
I myself have a complex about my lower body, and I think there are many people who also want to cover their buttocks and thighs.
Therefore, we designed the length of the garment to be longer, with the back being 8cm longer than the front, creating a difference between the front and back.
Furthermore, the hem is not a straight line but a beautiful semicircular shape.
To prevent the hem from fraying, we use 14GG1PLY all-knit tape and then double (sandwich) linking.
"The grass is always greener on the other side"
ANNUAL specializes in knitwear, but it is because they have devoted so much time to knitwear that their woven fabrics and cut-and-sewn items look so appealing, and this is also the source of their ideas.
Normally, knitwear requires sewing together each part that has been knitted by linking, so generally there is no need to use a sewing machine except for labeling.
The Henry Thermal Pullover features a triple-needle swing stitch on the collar and armholes.
It's just a little bit of fun, but it gives the piece an element that differentiates it from other knitwear, as it looks both like a cut and sew item and a knitwear.
The back of the shirt has a slit front and six 11.5mm shell buttons. It is finished with a Henley neck.
We hope you will wear it for a long time by trying various arrangements, such as opening the buttons to show a little skin, or layering it as an inner layer under a dress.
